PERMIT SERVICES

GeoPool has been managing exploration tenements in the Nordics since 2007. Currently we look after permitting and stakeholder engagement under the jurisdictions of Finland, Sweden, and Norway.

With decades of experience in tenement management, we are able to focus on the essentials in the application process. Our team of tenement advisors will guide your company through the legal requirements with a responsible approach. We consider active and transparent communication with landowners, stakeholders and authorities an essential part of any permitting process. With great legislation insight combined with local practical experience in exploration, we assist and advise at all stages of your project.

Area review

Understanding the unique characteristics of the area you are studying allows your company to plan and responsibly organize fieldwork. On the other hand, the knowledge of the area’s geological context and exploration history will efficiently put you on the right track. While valuable data is readily available, finding and collecting the necessary information from various sources may be complicated.

GeoPool compiles open-source information in a comprehensive report called the Area Review, which presents your study area in an accessible format with detailed maps. The document gives a quick overview of the general properties of the site and dives deeper into the themes relevant to your exploration.

The Area Review also points out the potential limitations or restrictions for prospecting. Upon request, we can give advice on how to access open-source data or acquire possible licensed or restricted data sets.

Our Area Review includes the following themes:

  • Associated permit fees and legal obstacles
  • Administrative regions and accessibility
  • Terrain properties and land use
  • Distinctive environmental and cultural aspects
  • Available geological and exploration data (i.e. metallogeny, bedrock, quaternary, and geophysics)
  • Available historical reports.

Tenement applications

GeoPool can manage your exploration licensing according to your company’s needs. A tenement application requires that some paperwork has been prepared in advance. We compile all the necessary information to prepare the documents and GIS dataset required for the requested application. Upon request, we can also submit the application on your behalf and act as the primary contact organization for authorities and stakeholders. We also keep a record of the status of tenements and take action when needed to make sure your permits are in good standing.

Our tenement management services include:

  • Application for a new exploration permit
  • Applications for extension, transfer and relinquishment of an existing exploration permit
  • Application for a mining concession, including relevant permits and advisory
  • Tenement monitoring and reporting.
Valid exploration permits in October, 2025 (Tukes, Bergstaten, DMF).

Notifications of field work (work plans)

Landowners must be provided with a work plan if an exploration activity is planned on land they own or hold a special right to. Other stakeholders in various areas may also need to be notified or informed about the work. Notification must be distributed well in advance to allow all landowners sufficient time to submit comments or objections, and to ensure the work plan becomes valid before the exploration work begins. We prepare the work plan, manage the notifications, and handle any necessary negotiations.

Stakeholder communication

At GeoPool, we value an open and transparent communication on the progress of an exploration project. Thus, we work actively on creating a stronger interaction with the local stakeholders. A good relationship with the local community leads to the smooth advancement of the exploration projects.

Our stakeholder communication services involve:

  • Interaction with landowners and other stakeholders
  • Drawing up contracts and agreements
  • Preparing announcements to local newspapers
  • Organizing public meetings and other local community events.

Landowner payments and compensations

Landowners and Sàmi villages are entitled to compensation when an encroachment has occurred on their property or within their area. The amount of compensation depends on the type of surveys that have been carried out. GeoPool manages the calculation of compensation as well as communication with the stakeholders entitled to receive it.

Within the scope of an exploration project, a specific agreement on compensation may be made in addition to Svemin’s recommendations. In such cases, we assist in estimating a reasonable level of compensation and also help with the practical arrangements related to the agreement.

Reporting

Once an exploration permit has expired, the exploration company is obligated to submit a final exploration report on the actions taken in the area. Under some jurisdictions, there is also an annual reporting requirement. We compile all necessary information and compose reports for different purposes when needed.
